Roman copy of the time of imperator Augustus from Greek original of the III B.C.
It was bought by Ekaterina the II as a part of the collection of Laid Brown,
the director of "The Bank of England" in 1787. The copy was in Tsarskoy Selo till the middle of the XIX century.
It came into the Hermitage in 1851. |

A portrait image of great Greek philosopher (470-399 years B.C.). He lived in Aphiny and was executed according to the decision of the public assembly. The image goes back to the famous portrait statue created by sculptor Lisipp in the last part of the III centure B.C. Socrat's head came into the Hermitage as a part of Kampan's collection bought by Russian in Paris in 1892. |

Inthe XIX century the fragment went to the collection of count I.S. Laval in St.Petersburg, where in 1852 it was bought for the Hermitage. |
