Badge of the Blue Cross Society
Edward Schramm
Faberge workshop
Silver gilt, enamel
This diamond-shaped badge with a blue enamel cross
bears the inscription:[trans.] Blue Cross Society, and
ends in the form of a fireman's helmet.
The badge was intended for contributors to the Blue
Cross Society, the All-Russian mutual aid society for
firemen, set up in 1897. In case of death or disability,
this society provided financial assistance to firemen or
their relations.
This particular example originates from Nicholas II's
numismatics collection. On the reverse we see the
artist's mark, along with the initials of the assayer
Yakov Lyapunov.
