Saved for Russia: Works of art donated
to the State Hermitage Museum by the North-Western Customs
June 1997 - 29 May 2000
The exhibition Saved for Russia opened on May 9, 1998, in the Rastrelli
Gallery of the Winter Palace. On show are over 60 items donated to the
Hermitage by the North-Western Customs. These items of Russian and Western
European applied art and icons were confiscated by the Customs Service
from those seeking to export them illegally. On view are a wide range
of jewellery pieces created
at well-known Russian workshops and porcelain pieces produced at no less
famous Russian porcelain factories.
