Realms of the Eagle. The Art of Empire

The exhibition Realms of the Eagle. The Art of Empire is devoted to the style of Napoleonic wars in art - Empire style in France and Classicism of the epoch of Alexander I in Russia. The exhibition housed in the former appartments of the minister for foreign affairs Count Nesselrode in the General Staff has 600 works of art, drawings and applied art articles. Among the pictures, mostly portraits, the central place belongs to the canvas Invalid Giving a Petition to Napoleon at the Guard's Parade in front of the Tuileries Palace by Horace Vernet.

Empire style manifested itself most vividly in the works of applied art represented at the exhibition by a monumental and solemn decor of the gala saloons or by an intimate and refined decoration of the drawing rooms and boudoirs. A separate room at the exhibition is devoted to Eugene Beauharnais, son of the first wife of Napoleon Josephine, who played an important part in the political and military history of France.
