THE ANNUAL DIOCESAN ASSEMBLY
OF THE ST.-PETERSBURG
METROPOLITANATE
An annual Diocesan assembly of the St.-Petersburg Metropolitanate being
presided over by the Metropolitan of St.-Petersburg and Ladoga VLADIMIR
was held on October, 26,2000. Both clergy and laity of the Diocese were
among the participants of the meeting, totally 421 delegates. The last
assembly of the 20-th century was called "historical" by the Metropolitan
VLADIMIR. Statistic data by the Diocese of St.-Petersburg were reported by
its Secretary Archpriest Gennady Bartov, rector of the St.-Trinity
Izmailov Church of St.-Petersburg.
Archpriest Vladimir Sorokin, head of the St.Prince Vladimir Church,
Chairperson of the Department on relationship with penitentiary
establishments and Professor of the St.-Petersburg Theological Schools
called heads of the parishes to busy themselves with searching for
information concerning new martyrs and witnessers of the faith in each
parish. Archpriest Michail Yurimsky, head of the the Virgin's Protecting
Vail church in town of Gatschina addressed Metropolitan VLADIMIR with a
request to explaine what should be an attitude of Orthodox Christians
toward such a phenominon as introducing so-called identification numbers
being attached to tax-payers as a must at the present time.
THE NAME DAY OF THE METROPOLITAN
OF ST.-PETERSBURG AND LADOGA
VLADIMIR
The Diocese of St.-Petersburg solemnly celebrated the Name Day of its
administrative Archpastor Metropolitan of St.-Petersburg and Ladoga
VLADIMIR on October, 17, 2000. A festive church service took place in the
St.-Trinity Cathedral of the St.Prince Alexander Nevsky Monastery (Lavra).
The service was headed by His Most Eminence Metropolitan VLADIMIR.
Officiated with him were His Eminence Constantine, Bishop of Tikhvin,
Rector of the St.-Petersburg Theological Schools alongside with numerous
clergy of the Diocese of St.-Petersburg. The Divine Liturgy was followed
by the small prayer and festive assembly in the premises of the Diocesan
Administration.
Mr.Yakovljev A., Governor of St.-Petersburg was also among the
participants of the festivities.
THE FIRST POKROV PEDAGOGIC READINGS
The first Pokrov pedagogic readings took place in the St.-Petersburg in
the periode from October,12-14, 2000. They have been sponsored by the
Theological Academy of St.-Petersburg, Russian State Pedagogic University
by Gertsen A.I. as well as by the departments of the St.-Petersburg
Metropolitanate on roligious education, work with the youth, etc. The
readings were dedicated to the topic: "Dialogue between home secular and
church educational traditions."
ASSEMBLY DAY IN THE ST.-PETERSBURG
THEOLOGICAL SCHOOLS
Celebrations on occasion of the patron saint's day - memorial day of
Heavenly Patron of the Theological Schools Saint Apostle and Evangelist
John the Theologian were held in the St.-Petersburg Theological Seminary
and Academy. The day began from the Divine Liturgy headed by His Eminence
Konstantin, Rector of the St.-Petersburg Theological Schools. In his
service he was officiated with His Eminence Prokl, Archbishop of Simbirsk
and Melekess. Co-celebrated with them were also members of the Teaching
Board being ordained priests as well as numerous clergy from various
dioceses who arrived to participate in the most important feast of the
Theological Academy and Seminary.
A school assembly was opened by the introductory word done by His
Eminence Konstantin,Bishop of Tikhvin and professor of the St.-Petersburg
Theological Schools. Professor protopresvyter Georgy Telpis responsible
for upbringing work in the schools offered his report concerning the final
results of the St.-Petersburg Theological Schools's activities for the
passed 1999 / 2000 school year.
Honoured professor, protopresvyter Vasily Stoikov did a major report at
the assembly day on the theme:" Life and activity of Nikolai Dmitrijevitsh
Uspensky - professor of the St.-Petersburg Theological Schools".
"THE ORTHODOXY IN THE FAR EAST"
A section titled as "The Orthodoxy in the Far East" conducted its work
in the walls of the St.-Petersburg Theological Schools and at the Oriental
faculty of the City State University within the framework of an
international scientific conference called " Easten Asia - St.-Petersburg
- Europe: intercivilization contacts and perspectives of the economic
cooperation." Scientists from Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Yaroslavlj,
Khabarovsk, Blagovetschensk as well as from the USA,Taiwan,Honkong, South
Korea and Japan took participation at the section's sittings.
Metropolitan of Honkong and South-East Asia Nickita (Loulias),
Eucumenical Patriarchate, was an honorable guest at this forum.
