There are presented about 400 the most interesting exhibits from those that were acquired or donated to the Russian Museum for the last 10 years. These are Old Russian art works, paintings, drawings, engravings, and applied, decorative and folk-art objects. Among them are works by V. Borovikovsky, F. Bruni, K. Bryullov, O. Kiprensky, M. Klodt, B. Kustodiev, M. Larionov, K. Malevich, K. Petrov-Vodkin, I. Repin, N. Roerich, L. Toke, I. Shishkin.

The Malta order is one of the oldest knights' societies. First order's contacts with Russia appeared in the epoch of Peter I. Emperor Pavel I was proclaimed the Great Master of the Order. The exposition, that was organized by the State Hermitage and the State Russian Museum with the participation of 10 largest museums, archives and libraries of St.-Petersburg, told of these and many other interesting historic moments in relations between Russia and the Malta order.

The exhibition was devoted to the tea-drinking tradition and showed its reflection and development in Russian literature for the last two centuries. In the basis of exposition were the paintings of the 19th - 20th centuries from the Russian Museum funds (works by B. Kustodiev, K. Petrov-Vodkin, A. Lentulov, I. Mashkov, P. Konchalovsky etc.). They were surrounded by the applied art objects from the State History Museum of St. Petersburg.
